Monday Musings

These past few weeks have been filled with lots of work, lots of concerts and lots of good times. While Death Cab and The Mowglis were a fun time, those concerts were nothing compared to driving down to OKC to see The Lumineers. They were too amazing for words. Honestly, trying to describe the concert would do no good because I cannot sum up how incredible they were. Wesley Schutlz’s voice is angelic, and seriously sounds better live than on an album. The Lumineers are coming to KC in January and I think I am about to splurge on a ticket..

So please, allow me to entertain you with some pictures of what has been entertaining me these past few weeks.

1.Do you follow @beadsandblooms on Instagram yet? What started as a summer side project turned into a creative outlet. 2. The Lumineers were seriously 10 feet away from us. Dead. 3. We also were like 10 feet away from Death Cab the entire concert and let me tell you, being up close and personal > the rafters. 4. Say hello to my sweet friend who drove up from Dallas to go to The Lumineers concert with me. 5. National Taco Day is my favorite holiday of the year. 6. Favorite KC bakery. Chocolate espresso cookies, ‘nuf said! 7. I attended a party at Union Station to celebrate Lockton’s 50th Anniversary. I may not work there, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t the best work party I’ve attended. Sorry MMGY.

Until next time,

Monday Musings

Every single Monday I sign off all my work emails with a “Happy Monday” and every single Friday I sign off with a “Happy Friday.” There is something so great about both the beginning and the end of a week. This past week I have felt so productive and I am really starting to feel like I have my ish together. I am finally in a good routine with work, I have moved into my new (temporary) apartment, I am officially a Costco card holder and I managed to make it to Lawrence to cheer on my Jayhawks! Rock Chalk! Growing up and becoming a young professional is a strange coming of age that is exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. Until recently, I never thought about paying taxes, having a 401k and no longer being on my parents health insurance plan. Let me tell you, shit gets real really fast when you see how much of your paycheck actually goes into all those accounts. But when you look at the big picture, you realize you are actually doing okay, you can afford to buy that new dress and everything works out in the end.

It is official!!! I am staying in KC post graduation! I have been applying for jobs like crazy these past couple of months and after five interviews with my dream company, I was offered a position! Can’t wait to start next week and officially be a working girl! In the meantime, I am still working part-time at anther (and I will not be quitting because I love it there so much!) and finishing up my intern duties!

Until next time,

I am currently loving this black and white tassel dress from Madewell! I snagged it on sale and have been wearing it nonstop ever since. This is such a versatile dress and I love that you can dress it up with a pair of heels and a blazer for a more professional look, or dress it down with a pair of strappy gladiator sandals and bold lip for a fun afternoon. This dress is so youthful and fun and the styling possibilities are endless. Like the fashion dork I am, I have some of my work outfits already planned for the upcoming week, and this dress is definitely in rotation. As a recent graduate, I find it so important to invest in pieces that I can wear for work and play, and this dress does just that.

Hopefully I can find more pieces that transition to my young professional lifestyle.

Until next time,

Autrin

With Love, From Europe

Throwing it back old school to my “With Love, From Barcelona” posts from when I was studying abroad two summers ago, but this time, I am coming to you from the entire continent of Europe! After graduation I embarked on a month long family vacation and it was an adventure of a lifetime. I truly LOVE to travel!!!!! I am 100 percent in my element when I am exploring a new city or country and this trip was full of a lot of firsts. We went to London, Berlin and Paris, and I was fortunate enough to travel to Prague and meet up with one of my best friends who has been living in Germany for the last year. I had been to Paris before, but everywhere else was a new experience for me, and I loved each city for its own unique vibes and quirks.

First Stop: London

This truly was an amazing trip, despite all the rain (both literal and figurative), and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to go back to Europe once again! As cliche as it sounds, traveling is the best gift you can give yourself and/or others, and it is something you must do in order to evolve as a person. I think that in order to truly understand a culture, you have to visit it, eat your way through it and embrace it. Now get out there and go explore because there is so much worth seeing!!!

Until next time,

Autrin

(Tuesday) Musings

First off all, I made it through this entire blog post thinking today was Monday, when in fact, it is Tuesday. Thank you 4th of July, haha! This past week has been a spur of sporadic decision making. Since some of my friends are still ~funemployed~  and I am still at my parents house in California, it seemed like the perfect time for one of my good friends to book a last minute flight to spend the week exploring Northern California. One of my favorite things about living here is that there is so much to see in every direction if you are willing to spend a couple of hours in the car. From Santa Cruz to San Francisco, and then up to Tahoe, and we did it all.

One of my favorite things to do is go kayaking, so I was really happy that on Saturday we were able to head over to the lake and spend an afternoon kayaking and jumping off trees. The weather was perfect and the water wasn’t too cold!  We both agreed that we had the most fun that day, even if that meant flipping the kayak and having all our stuff fall into the water..oppsss!!!!! (full disclosure: it was totally my fault the kayaking flipped when I was trying to get back in it) But there is nothing an In-N-Out milkshake and a trip to Nordstrom Rack can’t fix ;))

We wrapped up our time together with an afternoon at Folsom Lake, a 4th of July Rodeo and a firework show. We can now say “this ain’t our first rodeo” and actually mean it! Come back and visit us anytime, Caragh!!

Until next time,

Autrin

Is this real life?

Girls go to college to get more knowledge, boys go to Jupiter to get more… well, you know how the rest of the saying goes. Jokes aside, this past weekend I graduated college!?! It is still unreal to me, and walking down the hill felt like a celebratory stroll rather than the end of an era, but I did it! I wish I could convey to you all how much I love KU, but as cliche as it sounds, I am speechless when I think about the past four years of college. Sure, KU is amazing, fun, spirited, proud, traditional, eccentric, loud, unique, historic and even a bit crazy, but it is also so much more than those words can express. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, and right now I only seem to have about ten, I will leave you of some snaps of graduation weekend to try to express my love for KU.

spring breakers pt. 1

As my friend Ginny said, we boot-scoot boogied our way through honky tonk central this past spring break and boy was it fun as boot-scooting is silly. If you haven’t been to Nashville yet, please, please put it on your list of top cities to visit in the United States. This was my first trip and let me assure you it will not be my last. My friends and I stayed in the 12South district and I loved my morning walks through the picturesque neighborhood. My favorite part of the trip was definitely the area we stayed in because there were so many cute shops and restaurants within walking distance of our condo. The next time you are in Nashville make sure to stop by 12S and check out everything this little district has to offer. Some of the highlights from the trip include:

life lately.

Last week was an amazing start to year 22 and I can’t wait to see what the next 12 months bring. I started the week off with lots of birthday cake, yummy food, fresh flowers and 2-2 balloons. Trust me when I say nothing is more fun than an impromptu photoshoot with your balloons at 2am while dancing around to Taylor Swift. Basically the song 22 was my anthem last week and I have no complaints. I ended the week with a sweet visit to my favorite birthday twin and has little birthday party at my house. Life is good, life is sweet, and I hope this week brings me as much joy as lasts.

Meet AYA! My little birthday twin! Even though she’s not even a week old yet, I know I am going to be her favorite birthday buddy! As I’ve always said, Groundhogs Day makes the best birthday.

Here and There

I have created the perfect recipe for living my life right now and it goes a little like this, one part pictures, two parts new experiences, three parts happiness. This is my last semester as an undergraduate at KU and it is crazy to think that in May I will be graduating #AlwaysAJayhawk. I want to get the most out of my college experience and I am excited to see what the semester has in store. So with my new recipe for life consuming most of my diet, let’s get to the one part pictures to see what makes me three parts happy.

In the wise words of Kate..

Proof that Vegas is more than extravagant shows and fancy hotels. This is what I call the simple things in life, a carousel created solely of fresh flowers. (Please note that I kid and I was blown away by the extravagant nature of the display)

Last week I spent time in both Vegas and San Francisco and as much as I love quick little trips here and there, there is nothing quite like the comfort of home (and your own bed). I love my little Lawrence life and I am so happy to be back in the town that has shaped me so much.

Until next time,

Autrin
